The Wall Celebration: Three Days of Tradition and Fun

Every summer, the town of Wall, South Dakota, transforms into a vibrant hub of excitement and community spirit during the Wall Celebration. This much-anticipated three-day event, beginning on July 11th, is filled with activities that highlight the best of South Dakota’s culture and hospitality. It's a wonderful time for everyone, from children to adults, and offers a mix of fun, tradition, and local flavor.

Day 1: Broncs, Burgers, and Beers

The celebration kicks off on July 11th with "Broncs, Burgers, and Beers." This opening event is a perfect start to the weekend, combining the thrill of bronc riding with the comfort of delicious local burgers and a wide selection of beverages. People from all around gather to enjoy the evening, mingle with friends and neighbors, and soak up the festive atmosphere. The excitement of the bronc riding paired with tasty food and drinks makes for an unforgettable evening.

Days 2 and 3: A Weekend Full of Activities

As the weekend unfolds, Wall becomes a playground for both kids and adults. For those who enjoy a bit of friendly competition, the cornhole tournament is a highlight. Teams compete in this popular lawn game, aiming for the perfect throw while enjoying the lively atmosphere. It's a fun way to engage with others and perhaps even win some bragging rights. Meanwhile, children can enjoy a variety of activities including an inflatable water slide, stick horse rodeo, and the parade. Additionally, the ice cream social at the Lutheran church is the perfect way to cool down, featuring as many flavors of homemade ice cream as one could want. With plenty to keep the little ones entertained, smiles and laughter fill the air as kids dive into the fun.

Dance enthusiasts are in for a great experience with live bands setting the perfect ambiance. On Friday night, Slamabama will kick off the festivities under the tent, followed by Flannel taking the stage on Saturday night after the Rodeo. With drinks, friends, and family joining in, dancing the night away promises to be the ultimate evening out.

The Rodeo

During the weekend, another exciting event to attend is the rodeo, starting with Mutton Bustin' at 6pm followed by PRCA Rodeo performances at 7pm. Prior to the Saturday night PRCA performance, enjoy a special Native American Performance featuring Starr Chief Eagle and Special Guests, showcasing the Lakota Hoop Dance and a Live Drum Group sponsored by the Wall-Badlands Area Chamber of Commerce and Wall Economic Development Corporation.

Rodeo fans gather to witness top-notch athletes competing in classic events such as bull riding, barrel racing, and steer wrestling. The rodeo not only delivers adrenaline-pumping action but also celebrates the skills and traditions of the American West, offering an experience that highlights the talent and bravery of its participants.
